About Book
Straightforward, sometimes philosophical, In Black and White features tales such as ‘At Twenty-two’, in which an old and blind miner must find his way out of a flooded pit; ‘The Judgement of Dungara’, in which a missionary battles against the malice of the High Priest; and ‘The Sending of Dana Da’, in which an Englishman meets a quirky ‘independent experimenter’. Snapshots of social and political life in the British Raj, this collection throws into sharp relief the uneven relationships that developed between the ruler and the ruled.
About Author
Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was born in Bombay, and completed his studies abroad before returning to India, where he wrote his celebrated work Plain Tales from the Hills. A novelist, poet and short-story writer, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1907, becoming the youngest person to have ever received this award. He also received the Gold Medal of the Royal Society of Literature in 1926. Among Kipling’s several acclaimed books are the iconic The Jungle Book and Kim.
