About Book
Reputed photographer Aloke Mitra captures memorable musical reminiscences and confidential moments in the life of one of Indias most beloved musicians, Ravi Shankar. Apart from showcasing him playing the sitar and performing on stage, the photos help us to catch a glimpse of his characteristic moods and idiosyncrasies. There are also candid moments of his intimate relationship with the city of Benaras and his family. Some photos depict him performing with maestros like Ali Akbar Khan, Zubin Mehta and George Harrison while others show him engaged in various literary addas. Aloke Mitras photos triumphantly render the stars most important stage role and chronicle the inspiring tale of how he achieved and preserved his stature as Indias top sitarist, literally taking India to the world. This book is a series of insightful portraits of a legend by a close and trusted friend.
